Vidya Balan : “Parineeta” and Coming into Lime Light as a Promising Actress

Then finally, in 2005 Vidya Balan got her much awaited chance in Bolywood movie as Vidhu Vinod Chopra took her in the movie named “Parineeta”, a movie based on a popular Bengali novel by the same name written by famous Bengali writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. The movie was directed by Pradeep Sarkar. In the movie Vidya played the leading role of the movie- Lolita, an orphan young girl. Lolita lsot her parents at her childhood and she was brought up in her uncle’s family. Her uncle Gurucharan has a daughter- Koel (played by Raima Sen). Lolita and Koel have a good friendship among them. Their neighbor is rich person Navin Rai. Lolita goes that house and collaborates with his son Shekhar (played by Saif Ali Khan). Shekhar loves music and he along with Lolita composes music. Both Lolita and Shekhar love each other but neither of them knows it. The situation becomes critical when Shekhar’s father asks Lolita’s uncle to return the loan her uncle took three years before from Shekhar’s father Navin Rai. At one stage Navin Rai threats Lolita’s uncle of losing his home.

At this stage of the movie, Girish (played by Sanjay Dutt) comes to the scene who has just come back from London. Girish fall in love with Lolita. Thus, a climax in the movie starts which ends peacefully. Playing the role of Lolita, Vidya Balan was highly praised. She could properly act in the role of a traditional Bengali lady. For this role she won most of the Best Debut Award in the major award giving ceremonies in India such as Filmfare Best Debut Award, IIFA Best Female Debut, Zee Cine Award Best Female Debut, Star Screen Award Most Promising Newcomer and Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow Female Award. The movie was also got five Filmfare Award and was nominated in other nine category including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress.
