British Actresses Turning to Bollywood

It seems a bit strange that British actresses and actors are now moving to Mumbai looking for a bright career in Bollywood. Reports have it in the media that there are now about 1000 British actors, actresses and dancers working in Bollywood. The biggest advantage of the British actresses in Bollywood is their white-screen which is considered as a requirement to be beauty among the Bollywood fans.

Moreover, the British actresses do not face any cultural binding in showing body on the screen, and thus, getting ahead of India’s conservative actresses. Naturally, the competition is much more less for the British actresses like Hazel in Bollywood than it si in Britain. Payment structure for the British actresses with white-screen is pretty much attractive. An actress hailing from Britain can earn £1,000 a day working in a Bollywood movie. Mumbai is much-more comfortable than London when it comes to everyday-life expenses.

So, the trend of moving to Bollywood is increasing among the British models and actresses now. I think, these migrated actresses are becoming a threat for the local actresses in Bollywood. Well, it is for sure that British actresses can not replace the front line actresses, but the supporting actresses and dancers of Bollywood have a lot to worry about these British actresses who are increasing in number day by day.

Bollywood: No Sign of a Come Back

Following a two-month standoff between producer-director and multiplex owners, it was expected that Bollywood movie industry would make a quick come back with a series of movies staking up for release. However, none of recent releases got off to a good start in the box office. In fact, the last two weeks saw a number of box office flops including Subhash Ghai-produced Paying Guests.

No doubt, Paying Guests was expected to be successful in the box office, but the movie fared poorly in almost all parts of India. There is little hope left for the movie as two big releases: New York and Kambakkht Ishq are lining up to get released next week.

Some other movies that failed to make some quick cash in are Let's Dance and Kal Kissne Dekha, which features two debutants in the lead roles. Overall, Bollywood has not got its much-awaited big hit yet, but it is expected that New York and Kambakkht Ishq could live up to the expectation of Bollywood fans.

Bollywood Movies to Get Released in a Flurry

Following the end of two-month stand off between Bollywood producers, distributors and multiplex owners, it is now time for many big releases in Bollywood. No doubt, it has been a big concern for the Bollywood producers who are ready to release their movies, but struggling to find a suitable date. There are about 50 films which will hit the screen in a very tight schedule. Next week, there will be Paying Guests, directed by Subhash Ghai on the big screen, while June 26 will see Yashraj Film’s New York getting released. There will be some other big movies including Kambakkht Ishq , Love Aaj Kal , Blue , Jashnn , Wanted , Kaminey , Main Aur Mrs Khanna , Luck , Agyaat and Aladin.

Now, it is to see if the producers can bring the money back from the box office. It is pretty much certain that it would be a hard task to make good revenue because there will be many movies at the same time and moviegoers will be puzzled to choose from many. I think, some producers should wait a bit more to release their movies.

Bollywood Workers will not Work in Australia

You already know that Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has refused to take a honorary doctorate degree from an Australian university to protest against the attack on Indian students in Australia recently. Now, it seems that the whole Bollywood is in its way to go against Australia over the attack which is thought to have been motivated by racism.

Now, reports have it in the media that Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), the biggest labor union of Bollywood, has refused to work in Australia now. Two Bollywood movies were supposed to be shot in Australia this month, but the labor union made it clear that none of their members will work in Australia before the racism issue is properly resolved. The union, which has 250,000 workers including actors and other technicians, has recently issued a notice to the producers of Bollywood on this regard.

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle will make another movie in Mumbai

Danny Boyle, the Slumdog Millionaire director, returned to Mumbai to over see the trust fund he and producer Christian Colson created for the child actors of Slumdog Millionaire, Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail. In an interview with Times of India, Boyle said that he is very happy to return to Mumbai once again. He missed the city very much. Danny Boyle said that he has plans to make another movie in Mumbai but the work of the project will start in 2010. Times of India reports:

Another film apart, what brings you to Mumbai, Danny?
What we’ve come here for is to hand over ... things ... to the Trust (created for the Slumdog Millionaire kids). I know the newspapers want to write stuff like , ‘Danny Rides To Their Rescue’. The truth about what we’re doing is far less glamorous and far more professional.

Slumdog Millionaire won eight Oscars last year. The child actors of the movie Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed became celebrities overnight. However, the children underwent immense mental pressure as they were constantly under the watch of the media. When the dwellings of Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail were destroyed, the news appeared on all the major newspapers around the world. The Congress Party of Maharashtra then offered them two apartments in Western Mumbai.
