Shilpa’s Mother Calls for a Boycott upon the Incident of Racial Abuse

Bollywood actress Shilpa Sheety has been reported to have racially been abused by some of her fellow celebrity house mates. This awful incident happened in the house where she is now living with other celebrity participants of the UK based reality television show Big Brother. This popular television show gives the fans to watch the real life of his/her dream character. Shilpa was selected for the show as an Indian celebrity for the first time. The selection got much hymn both in Bollywood and in UK. Recently it has been revealed that Shilpa has been insulted by some of her housemates.

Upon this insult, Shilpa’s mother calls for boycott the show. She said that self respect is more important than the show. I am quoting some lines from a signonsandiego report:

“Shetty, 31, has been repeatedly reduced to tears, called names, had her accent mocked and insulted by some of her fellow housemates who appeared to gang up on her.

On Wednesday night, housemate Danielle Lloyd said: 'Shilpa should fuck off home. She can't even speak English'.

'As a person I wouldn't have tolerated (it). I would have walked out,' Sunanda Shetty, the actress's mother, told Reuters.

'Maybe she is more tolerant than me, but this show is not more important that your self-respect.'

The tall, svelte actress, who has starred in about 40 Bollywood films, has said she is being racially abused. Clips of the show on Indian television showing her crying have prompted her admirers to protest and burn effigies of her co-competitors.

The programme's broadcaster Channel 4 said that Shetty was not being subjected to racial abuse but that there had been a 'culture and class clash'.

But on Thursday Carphone Warehouse, Europe's biggest mobile phone retailer, said it was suspending sponsorship of the programme because it did not want its name associated with claims of racist bullying.

'I think the reaction in India is justified. People care about their country and their culture,' Sunanda Shetty said.

'Shilpa is representing her country and she has been extremely dignified and gracious with her housemates.

Shetty's mother, who accompanies her on her shooting schedules, said they had had no clear idea of what the show was about when Shetty signed the contract.”

There were some prerequisite placed before the authority of the show and the authority have agreed with their proposal. Sunanda Sheety said:

“We said she will not do certain things like cook beef, wear a bikini or be made to go into a pool or be touched by a male.

They agreed and also we said there should not be any camera in the bathroom.”

It looks very bad to see that sort of narrow like mentality of a celebrity. The show telecasts the daily life of a celebrity and there is no wrong to deserve that a fan will learn something positive from the celebrities and will be inspired to follow the celebrities. However, now it seems that the opposite can also happens among the fans and they can be misled by these foolish activities of the celebrities.
