Shilpa Shetty is one of the most talented actresses of her time in Bollywood. Her promising acting skill and passionate figure gave her the tag ‘starlet’. Though initially she started her career as a model, she could also prove her acting skill later on. It is true that she could not able to blossom best of her potential. After having a promising start in the industry she could not make that much of hymn on his acting talent. Silpa Shetty was born on June 8, 1975 to Surendra and Sunanda Sheety. After searching many sites I got two names where she was born in. It really makes confusions. I found in Wikipedia that:

Born to Surendra and Sunanda Shetty in Karnataka, India, Shetty's native language is Tulu.

I found in Star glipms, Net Glimps that she was born in Tamil Nadu. Star Glimps says:

Shilpa Shetty was born on June 8th 1975 in Tamil Nadu.

Though her native language is Tulu, she is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujrati, Telegu and Tamil. She can also understand a bit of French. Shilpa Shetty’s sister Shamita Shetty is also a Bolywood actress.

She started her education at St. Anthony Girls' High School in Chembur. She could play Baseball well and was the captain of the baseball team of her school. She then joined in Podar College. Besides her study, she also practiced Karate and won Black belt being the champion in Karate.

This 5 feet and 10 inches tall actress is one of the tallest actresses in Bollywood. You might have seen her excellent dancing skill in her movies besides her acting skill. The background information is that she learned Bharat Natyam for six years.

Coming into Acting Career and getting Popularity Overnight

Shilpa Shetty started modeling before her getting into acting. Shilpa was supposed to appear on the big screen through the movie Gaata Rahe Mera Dil where she would play the leading role against the Bollywood Rahul Roy. However, the movie was not finished. That time she was only seventeen years old and she did not take any training before entering in this profession.

Shilpa Shetty, then, first acted in the hit movie, Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Baazigar’ in 1993. The other co-stars in the movie were Raakhee, Kajol. In the movie, Shilpa played the role of Seema Chopra who is killed by her revenge seeking lover Ajay Sharma (played by Shah Rukh Khan). Seema’s father Madan Chopa (Dalip Tahli) cheated with Mr. Sharma, father of Ajay and got his family out of their mansion. That is why, it is seen that Ajay seeks revenge for the cheating done by Mr. Chopra. He associated with the Chopra family and pretends to love the younger daughter of Mr. Chopra, Seema and at one stage Ajay kills her. For playing the role of Seema, she was critically acclaimed and got the nomination of Filmfare Best Debut award which later won by Saif Ali Khan later on. The movie made a huge hit at the box office and got four Filmfare awards. Through this movie Silpa came to the limelight and was thought to be the future star of Bollywood. That was the star of this potential Bolywood beauty towards today’s position.

Main Khiladi Tu Anari: Another Success Story

Following the tremendous success of Baazigar, her movie ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ released in 1994 was also another hit movie where she played Double role and her performance was really praiseworthy. In the movie her so-stars were Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Shakti Kapoor. In the movie, Shilpa Shetty played the role of both Mona and Basanti. At one stage of the movie Mona is killed and then Shilpa again appears in the movie playing the role of the Basanti.

In the movie it is seen that Karan (played by Akshay Kumar) is a police inspector. His brother Arjun is killed by Goli (played by Shakti Kapoor) who is an underworld don as Karan goes to investigate on Goli. Karan then wants to find Goli and to give him the punishment for the murder of his brother Arjun. However, Mona, the only witness of the killing of his brother is also killed by Goli and that is why Karan can not prove Goli to be the murderer of his brother. At that stage, Deepak Kumar (played Saif Ali Khan), a romantic actor, want to change her image of Romantic actor and wants to act in an action based role in his future movie. That is why, he wants to feel the experience of real action. Then Deepak drinks much and goes for drive and eventually caught by Police and kept in the police station. Deepak meets with Karan there and he revealed his desire to Karan that he wants to taste the experience of action and that is why he wants to observe his daily work. Karan initially does not agree to let him do it but being pressurized by the top level officers he later aggress to let Deekpak do it. Then at one stage of the movie, Karan meets with Basanti, who looks alike to Mona. Karna hit a plan and convince Basanti to give witness in the court. Then Karan, Basanti and Deepak goes for the mission of taking Goli to the court again in order to prove the charges given against him. The movie was directed by Sameer Malkan.

Dhadkan: A turning Point

After the movie Main Khiladi Tu Anari releasd in 1994, for about six years she could not act in any notable movie which brought substantial amount of hit. Then, it was Dhadkan released in 2000 which, in one sense, was a turning point in her career after a long drought of hit movie. In the movie Dhadkan, she played the role of Anjali, who loves Dev (played by Sunil Shetty). However, Shilpa’s father (played by Kiran Kumar) was reluctant to let his daughter marry a poor person Dev. So at one stage, Anjali has nothing to do against her father and eventually agrees with the decision of her parents to marry Ram (played by Akshay Kumar). Anjali was not happy with her married life as she still loves Dev. However, she gradually understands that Ram is a kind hearted person who respects her and wants to make her happy. Then she also starts to love her husband. In that situation, the climax of the movie starts as Dev appears to the scene. Dev has become wealthy person by then and this time he wants Anjali in his life. This hit movie was critically acclaimed and got a huge hit. For playing the role of Anjali, Shilpa got the nomination of Filmfare Best Actress Award.

“Rishtey” Continues Success Stories

Shilpa then acted in anther hit movie named Rishtey where she played the role of the Vaijanthi, a fisherwoman. For playing this role she, for the third time, got the nomination for the Filmfare award and this time she got for the Best Supporting Actress however, she also failed to win it. In the movie, Sooraj (played by Anil Kapoor) played the leading role in the movie. His wife is Komal (played by Karisma Kapoor) and they were separated after the birth of their son Karan. As Sooraj is poor, her father could not take this marriage easily and even after the marriage she manipulated her daughter to forget Sooraj. At one stage, her father (played by Amrish Puri) makes a plan to kill her child. Realizing the cruelty of her father, Sooraj had to flee with his son. For many years Sooraj tries to be both Mother and Father of his child, who knows that her mother is no more in the world. However, karan, his child desires for getting motherly love. At that stage of the movie, Vaijanthi comes and she fall in love with Sooraj, however, he does not care it. At that stage Komal appears and the movie turns into a real climax. Karon wants to get back his son and Karon’s father tells him to earn 15 lakh rupees to get back his son. The movie got a huge success and Shilpa was also praised widely.

Phir Milenge: Reaching in a New Height

In this movie Shipla played a role of Tamanna Sahni, an AIDS patient who lost her job due to this reason. In the movie, her co-stars were Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. In the movie it is seen that Tamanna is an employee of an advertising agency and she contributed in many of her company’s success. At that time, she meets with Rohit (played by Salman Khan), her college friend and they both fall in love with each other. The situation turned critical while she goes to give blood for her sister Tania, who injured in an accident, and doctor tells Tamanna that she bears the HIV AIDS virus. Her world changes and she fall in distress. However, she got the biggest shock while she is sacked from his job due to being a patient of AIDS which seems illogical to her and she fells indult for this. Then she wants to take some legal action challenging her sacking decision. A law year, Tarun Anand (played by Abhishek Bachchan) aggresses to take this file to the court. The main plot of this movie is to aware people regarding AIDS and to make people realize that AIDS is a disease not a crime. Playing the role of Tamanna, Shilpa got her second nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress award. Though she could not successful this time either, she along with this movie was widely acclaimed. For this role, she got AAHOA Award, Special Awards, Giant International Awards and Indo-Pak's Young Achiever Awards. This excellent movie was directed by Revathi.

In 2005, she played in a fighting movie- Dus, which was also very successful. In the movie, she played the role of Aditi Kumar who is a co agent of an anti terrorist cell and lover of the head of that cell, Siddhant Dheer (played by Sanjay Dutt). The movie could generate a huge hit at the box office. Though the role of Shilpa in the movie was minor, she was praised for her excellent acting.

Getting Invitation to UK Based TV Show Celebrity Big Brother: Making Indians Feel Proud

Shilpa Shetty has recently joined to the Celebrity Big Brother as one of eleven contestants of this popular reality UK TV show. She is the first celebrity who has taken then honor. The show includes celebrities from different parts of the world but especially from UK. In this show all the contestant celebrities are to live in the same house and live or three months without keeping any relation to the outer world. Then the winner is elected by the viewers’ votes. The show is presented by Davina McCall. Entering into the house she said that (from Wikipedia):

Getting Involved in Social Activities and HIV-AIDS Program

Shilpa has been involved in various social activities. She first involved in a television show run by BBC in order to protect AIDS in India. In that show other celebritites of Bollywood were also took part such as Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza and Raveena Tandon. Regarding that show she said (from Wikipedia):

Why not a film on HIV positive patients? It is a social stigma in our society. We made this film to highlight this problem ... This film will bring about a social awareness about AIDS in our country. It is high time we talked about this in our society.

It reveals the other side of Shilpa which we can not see on the big screen. Obviously, Shilpa is doing something praiseworthy.

Involvement in PETA and Getting Much More Popularity Worldwide

Shilpa Shetty also involved in PETA- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an International institution that works for keeping the animal rights world wide. For this organization, she also took part in a promotional advertisement where she is seen to be kept in a case wearing the costume of a tiger. You can find stars who have made good works in their life times but how many stars would you find who have done so many eventful things in just 32 years.
