Sonam Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan together in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

Following the success of Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone once said that she had been lucky enough to have started her filming career opposite a star like Shah Rukh Khan. Well, Sonam Kapoor may not have started her career opposite a star like Shah Rukh’s stature, but she created enough buzz with her natural acting talent in her debut film Saawariya under the direction of Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Now, reports have it that Sonam Kapoor is also going to star opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Yash Raj Films intended to star a 16-year old new girl in the female lead role of the move opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The production house operated a talent hunt program looking for a 16 year old newcomer with a combination of Punjabi looks and histrionic abilities. After interviewing hundreds of girls, Yash Raj Films failed to find out the right girl for the role. Then Sonam Kapoor came into the scene.

However, their efforts drew a blank, reports Mumbai Mirror, prompting Aditya Chopra to settle for a young and talented Punjabi girl that the whole country already knew and raved about - Sonam Kapoor.

Sonam's father Anil Kapoor, himself a talented actor, was receptive to the idea, and several meetings later Sonam was on board.

Production of the film, that will be shot extensively in Greece, Australia and Dubai, will start in June - July for release by the end of 2008.

Sonam Kapoor is currently busy with her shooting schedule for Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s film Delhi 6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Starring against Shah Rukh Khan could be a dream to many. Now, the dream comes true for Sonam Kapoor. Let us see if she can capitalize on it fully and brings out a break through for her career as Deepika Padukone did for herself.
