Shilpa then acted in anther hit movie named Rishtey where she played the role of the Vaijanthi, a fisherwoman. For playing this role she, for the third time, got the nomination for the Filmfare award and this time she got for the Best Supporting Actress however, she also failed to win it. In the movie, Sooraj (played by Anil Kapoor) played the leading role in the movie. His wife is Komal (played by Karisma Kapoor) and they were separated after the birth of their son Karan. As Sooraj is poor, her father could not take this marriage easily and even after the marriage she manipulated her daughter to forget Sooraj. At one stage, her father (played by Amrish Puri) makes a plan to kill her child. Realizing the cruelty of her father, Sooraj had to flee with his son. For many years Sooraj tries to be both Mother and Father of his child, who knows that her mother is no more in the world. However, karan, his child desires for getting motherly love. At that stage of the movie, Vaijanthi comes and she fall in love with Sooraj, however, he does not care it. At that stage Komal appears and the movie turns into a real climax. Karon wants to get back his son and Karon’s father tells him to earn 15 lakh rupees to get back his son. The movie got a huge success and Shilpa was also praised widely.
