Awarapan Coming in a Bad Time in Box Office?

It seems that no movie is clicking in box office in Bollywood this year. Awarapan is coming at a time when people in a summer vacation mood and may have some time and money to spend for going in the cinema halls. However, at the same day, two other movies are hitting the screens too. Don’t forget Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Rajnikanth’s Sivaji. They are still in the cinema halls and are doing some not so bad business.

Business of Cinema wrote:

While the Bhatts and Emraan Hashmi's fans will be treated to their most expensive project Awarapan budgeted Rs 180 million (Rs 18 crores), Himesh Reshammiya's admirers will see the singer turn into an actor with Aap Kaa Suroor.

The Deol trio on the other hand, will be seen on screen together for the first time with Anil Sharma’s family drama Apne. Hollywood movie Die Hard 4 starring Bruce Willis as the police detective John McClain will also hit theatres this week.

It seems that the box office is a bit saturated at this moment. Now, we have to wait and see if Awarapan shine and defeat all the other movies.

Box Office Position on 10 January 2006: Old Movies Dominating

The first week of January has passed and it is time to asses the box office of Bollywood. According to desifans.com the top 5 movies are:

Movie No. 1 :Bhagam Bhag - Doing reasonably well!

Movie No. 2 : Kabul Express - Doing well in multiplexes, dropped in small centers.

Movie No. 3 : Dhoom 2 - Steady strong collections!

Movie No. 4 : I See You - Shockingly poor opening!

Movie No. 5 : Vivah - Box office victory continues.

Dhoom 2 is still strong in the box office and Vivah is doing reasonably well too. I guess next week some things would change. This month, we have Guru and then Guru may out number all of these movies.

By the way, in this blog, we have covered the Movie Dhoom 2 very well. To read those entries just click here:

Bollywood: Box Office Condition of December 2006

Analyzing the market demand of the recently released Bollywood movies it is seen that Govinda, Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Bhagam Bhag’ stands at the top place in the top five list. Though it is true that its demand has been fallen after having a promising start, its overall position is good. Many think that a lot of promotional activities have helped the movie to do average business.

Most surprisingly Lage Raho Munna Bhai is still going well. Another super hit movie Don is also generating a good amount. Apna Sapna Money Money, a low budget movie has also got some surprise hit. However, it is Kabul Express which is now in the second position which has seen a substantial hit in the Multiplexes but could not generate well in the small theaters. Dhoom 2 is still going well in its 5th week as it still stands at 3 in the top chart. Another low Budget movie Viva starred by Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao also got some surprise hits and stands at the 4th place of the list. The last place of the list is for Big B, Hema Malini, Rani Mukherjee, Salman Khan and Jhon Abraham starrer ‘Baabul’ which could not meet the expectation.
