Shaurya and the Dream of Minissha Lamba

What career Minissha Lamba would have chosen if she had not come to acting? The answer is war reporter. Yes, Minissha Lamba, the beautiful Bollywood actress, aspired to become a war reporter and her idol was Christiane Amanpour, the famous war reporter.

Now a days she is really happy as what she couldn't achieve in her real life she can now enjoy in her reel life. In Samar Khan's Shaurya Minissha is portraying a war-reporter. It's not all that we have to tell you about Minisha's career options. As we all know that there always been an inspiration behind what one wishes to be. In case with Minisha there was a reporter named Christiane Amanpour, the million dollar war reporter of CBS News and CNN.

Christiane is famous for her reports of Persian Gulf War as well as the reports of Bosnian War. Many times she faced controversies because of her so-called biased reports. But she continued her job and due to her reports of tensed war-zones of Kashmir, Czechoslovakia, as well as Middle East countries she achieved incomparable fame. Now a days she is spending time helping others and sharing her own loneliness.

Well, Minissha is not the first lady to play the character of journalism. Earlier, in Lakshya we have seen Preity Zinta playing the character of Romila Dutta, a war reporter.

Minissha thinks that women should be more diversified in their journalism profession. They should go for covering crime, politics, sports, economics and international news. She thinks that women can work better as neutral reporters.

Shaurya: Interview of Rahul Bose

Rahul Bose is playing the character of an army lawyer, Major Siddharth, in Shaurya.

In an interview with One India, he shares his experience of working in Shaurya. Here is an excerpt of the interview:

Q.: Please tell us about your character in the film "Shaurya".

A.: In this film, I portray an army lawyer who gets irritated all he time, as he does not have many cases. The lawyer gets a case at last, which is quite complicated, and realizes that he might eventually lose his life if he continues to work on the case. The story will move on as the lawyer, played by me, goes ahead with the case and fights it.

Q.: According to you, what's the meaning of "Shaurya"?

A.: I think "Shaurya" means whatever you do, do it with complete confidence and dedication.

Q.: Minisha Lamba stars opposite you in the film, so can you talk about your chemistry on screen with her?

A.: I mix well with all my co-stars. Even if I hate someone, my acting and perfect sense of chemistry does not let others notice this. I think building proper chemistry in front of the camera is quite easy, as they all are made or created. All that we show and do at the set are just forced and made. You also follow the same route as you are supposed to work as a part of a team.

Like Kay Kay Menon, Rahul is also known for playing serious characters on the screen. When asked about his decision to work in comic roles he said that in his theatre days he used to comic characters. So, there is nothing very significant behind his decision. He just changed his tracks to do different characters. Now, he is back to comic characters again.

Shaurya: Interview of Minissha Lamba

Minissha Lamba started as a model and then came to movies in 2005. In the last three years, she appeared in a series of movies but none of them were successful enough to establish her as an actress in Bollywood. Shaurya is his first movie of 2008. Here she plays the character of Kavya Shastri, a war reporter. She shares her experience in an interview with One India. Here is the excerpt:

Q.: What do you understand by the word Shaurya?

A.: For me, the word Shaurya means the presence of many positive characteristics within us, before commencing something courageous. I never think that Shaurya means something where you forget all your jobs and come to the street showing off your power against something odd. Shaurya also means that you remain good-natured, but build yourself so tough that no other can utilize your decency.

Q.: Have you ever done anything that proves your Shaurya?

A.: See, Shaurya never means that you just show off the flag of what you have done. Even everyday in and out, we face several such situations where we have chances to protest against all odds. For example, if you travel in buses, you may witness someone teasing any lady or someone can tease you too. If you have the true courage, you can protest there. That will be your "Shourya".

Minissha became nostalgic when she went to Manali for the shooting of Shaurya. Her first movie, Yahaan, was also shot in Manali. The places brought back many memories.

Shaurya: Interview of Kay Kay Menon

Kay Kay Menon; for any Hindi movie goers, this name brings in some expectations upon hearing. This talented actor can play any kind of character, comic or serious, with great ease. He may not have any big block buster to his credit but his performance has always been praised by critics and film goers. In Samar Khan’s second movie, Shaurya, Kay Kay played the character of an army person, Brigadier Rudra Pratap Singh. With One India he shares his experience of the movie. Here is an excerpt of the interview:

Q.: What does Shaurya mean to you?

A.: At first I would like to make clear that for me Shaurya and Veerta are two different things. "Shaurya" is in raising voice against wrong deeds when no one is ready to support you. But in this film that particular word has different meanings for different characters.

Q.: What's about your character in Shaurya?

A.: I am playing a brigadier in the film. He is known as Rudra Pratap Singh. He has some personal values and he has faith in those values only.

Q.: The film is based on army. What do you feel is the most interesting part of the film?

A.: The best thing is that whatever is told in the film is based on reality. Everything including uniform, behaviour and mannerism are very realistic.

Q.: How did you prepare yourself for your character?

A.: I don't do much of research. I believe in the story and prepare my character based on the story. I have always seen that whenever we start researching with characters, we end up coming with some fixed mannerism. And that's even opposite to the character. I don't even think of doing the film which doesn't offer me any good character.

Q.: Have you ever done anything in your life that has become Shaurya for you?

A.: I don't remember anything like that because I think it builds ego in you. So better you forget that as it helps living a better life.

While shooting for the movie in Manali Kay Kay learned playing golf. When asked about his image as a serious actor he said that it is the other way round. He is not a serious person, rather takes his characters seriously. He believes that pretty soon the serious tag will be removed from him.

Minissha Lamba and Shaurya

Minissha Lamba is playing the character of a journalist named, Kavya. While working on the case of captain Javed Kavya and Major Siddhant Chaudhry (Rahul Bose) comes close. So far, the on screen Rahul and Minissha looked very good.

Glamsham reports:

Minissha is now totally focused on her next project, Samar Khan's SHAURYA, where she is paired opposite the thinking man's actor, Rahul Bose. Minissha plays an investigative journalist in the film who is ready to take any risks for her profession, a la Barkha Dutt! She has gone the extra mile in order to make her character as realistic as possible.

The actress with the effervescent smile acknowledges the contribution of her director, Samar Khan in no uncertain terms. She adds that Samar's experience as a journalist contributed immensely to her performance in bringing to life the character of Kaavya Shastri, her on screen name.

This is Minissha’s first movie in 2008.

According to Minissha, Shaurya is a concept which exists among people who stand up and voice their opinions against all the mal-practice and injustice. By that it does not mean that people take the law in their own hands or start a revolution. Yet, when a person walking on the street sees a person being bullied, he should stop and raise his voice coming out of his/her “mundane comfort zone.”

Amrita Rao in Shaurya

Amrita rao is not a stranger to Bollywood anymore. So far she has only two successful movies to her credit, Ishq Vishk and Vivah and in both the movies she appeared with Shahid Kapoor. Amrita made a special appearance in Shaurya. India FM reports:

"Amrita Rao is indeed in my film. Just how it happened is an interesting story. I didn't intend to cast her. But she's a dear friend, and wanted to be part of my film. So, I cast her in a very special role. I guess I'm blessed to have so many friends in the industry," says the journalist-turned-director.

Samar is all praise for Amrita's professionalism. "We were supposed to shoot only for a day. But that stretched into two days. Amrita gave the time without any complaint. Then she wasn't happy with her dubbing. So, she did the dubbing again. I love how focused she was even in her cameo. And not just Amrita. I had a dream cast in Shaurya; Rahul Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Deepak Dobriyal and Minissha Lamba…they all went out of their way to make sure Shaurya turns out to be a special film."

This is Amrita Rao’s second movie this year. Her first movie, My Name is Anthony Gonsalves did not do very well.

According to Amrita Rao, Shaurya is not something very serious. It all boils down to our ordinary day to day lives. Every day we take hundreds of decisions on our own Shaurya is the quality to take the right decision. Should I turn my face around when a person is lying on the street ran over by a car? Should I lie to my boss? Should I say something to people and do the opposite?

Shaurya also means “combating fear.” We all have fears; fear of failure, fear of struggle, fear of staying alone in a room. The conquest of these fears are also the sign of Shaurya.

Story:
