Ram Gopal Verma is a reputed movie director in Bollywood. His movies deal with various social issues and causes. His recent movie, Rann, tries to expose the media manipulation. For a long time, Ram Gopal Varma had been thinking about making a movie related to media. Two years ago, he was watching a movie channel running an expose’ for five days. Later, he came to know that the entire expose’ was a set up. Then the idea of making Rann came to his mind. Regarding Rann, Ram Gopal Varma said:
“It is the job of media persons to expose everyone and everything and I am exposing them as a filmmaker. There’s nothing personal about it,...Television plays an integral part in an average household and I have attempted to prove that everything we see as news and get influenced by need not necessarily be true. The way a report is packaged, with background music, et al, there is no telling if it is the whole truth or if there is any truth in the story at all,”
Rann starts some of the talented actors of Bollywood including, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Gul Panag, Suchitra Krishnamurthy and Neetu Chandra. In this movie, Ram Gopal Varma shows how hard the TV journalist’s works. Ram Gopal Varma has great sympathy for the TV journalists and the pressure under which they work because they have to meet the deadlines and present story. It does not matter if the story is true or false. Promo of Rann is already being shown in various television channels and media is very much curious about the movie. The Censor Board had some problem with the theme song of the film. The tune of the theme song some how resembled with that of the national anthem. So, Ram Gopal Varma changed the tune.
