Bollywood is now going to through a tough phase as it has been hit heart by global recession. Moreover, these days, having big movie stars do not ensure success of the movie. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are two of the most sought after actors in Bollywood. The couple appeared in three movies so far- Kurbaan, Tashan, and Roadside Romeo. All of them bombed at the box office. For this reason, there next movie Agent Vinod is under financial pressure. Agent Vinod which stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor as undercover agents will be produced jointly by Eros International and Illuminati Films, which is co-owned by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan. Rumor spread out that, Eros International is considering to cut the budget of the film from Rs 65 crores to Rs 40 crores. The Times of India reports:
In today's time, when having a big star in one's film does not guarantee money recovery, it is not surprising that Eros is having second thoughts about the budget of the film. Apparently, the dismal performance of the recent Saif-Kareena starrer Kurbaan at the box-office has also played a big role in Eros deciding to cut costs. Incidentally, this is the third time recently that the real life couple failed to set the screen on fire. They had not too long ago worked together in Roadside Romeo and Tashan.
When Sriram Raghavan, director of Agent Vinod, was contacted, he told that he was not aware of the budget cuts and he said that he would not cut short the script because there are lots of action sequences that requires shooting in foreign locations. Even Kareena Kapoor will be doing some action sequences like those Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider.
