Rashmi Rocket film review

Rashmi Rocket in a Hindi film released on 15 October 2021 on ZEE5. This sports film directed by Akarsh Khurana and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Neha Anand and Pranjal Khandhdiya.

The story was written by Nandha Periyasamy and the music was composed by Amit Trivedi. The principal photographer Neha Parti Matiyani started shooting in November 2020 at FLAME University in Pune and wrapped up on 26th January 2021 in Gujarat.

In this film, actress Taapsee Pannu played the lead role as Rashmi Virah Chibber an indian professional sprinter who undergo peer jealousy, institutional politics and gender testing facts. She is the only girl who also come out openly and fight for justice. Priyanshu Painyuli played the character of an army man and Reshmi’s partner who always has her back as a solid rock. Abhishek Benerjee played as a committed lawyer who takes up Rashmi’s case and fight till the end for justice. His silly mistakes and nervousness made the character catchier.

This film’s story mainly based on Indian professionalsprinter Dutee Chand, who also became Indian’s first athlete to openly come out as a LGBTQ community and tried to expressed her truth in front of the world. But, this movie is not that kind of film which based on a true event, it just followed some part of the real story. The gender testing issues and court cases was the real part of her life which picturized in this film. So, after released many people said that it was the combinations of facts and fictions.

Actress Taapsee Pannu is the perfect blend for the lead character Rashmi. Her perfect toned body and tomboy attitude represent the Rashmi’s character so real that which Rashmi could believe audiences also believed it too.

In the film Rashmi Vira seen as a tomboy attitude with carefree childhood in Kutch. Where her supporting parents encourage her to do whatever she wants to do. Since childhood she run so fast that eventually everyone called her ‘rocket’, as fast as rocket she was. After some years she got selected for national level.

Everything seems all right initially. But, after won three significant race a sudden medical test happened and she was found to have excessive testosterone. For this reason, she will be ban for all international and domestic race competition. Surely, she would go through a tough time. Despite all, she decided to come out of it and filed a court case against her ban and fight for the justice.

Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost said “Here for a change is a Hindi film that knows how to portray male allies without allowing them to cross the line into male saviour territory. Here for a change is a Hindi film featuring female adversaries sans the all-women-are-enemies-of-women stereotype, and spotting female allies in unexpected places.”

Shubhra Gupta, in her review of the film in Indian Express wrote, "When you see Taapsee Pannu’s Rashmi fighting the good fight, for herself and for other athletes who have been done against in similar fashion, you want to cheer. For keeping sporting women on top, and for the very worthy cause."

At the end, I thought that the film is well documented and made with a great subject of gender liberty.
