Review of Salaam-e-Ishq at India Times

India Times has done a review of the movie Salaam-e-Ishq and you can read the review form this url:

http://movies.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-1458705,curpg-1.cms

Unlike other reviews, this review from India Times contains a lot of images from the movie. However, I do not like the idea of presenting the review in many short pages. It is very boring and annoying.

Anyway it wrote:

Kkamini is an infamously famous item girl who dances in movies and weddings. She creates controversies and grabs media attention a la Rakhi Sawant, but her antics often fail to catch the eye of Karan Johar, as all she wants is to be a Karan Johar ‘heroine’. Driven to desperation, she decides to take matters into her own hand and fakes having a boyfriend ‘Rahul’ (another publicity stunt) but is taken aback when a real ‘Raoool’ (Salman) walks into her life claiming to be her boyfriend! She is entrapped in a web of her own making, and slowly beings to fall in love with Raoool, who she can have only at the expense of giving up the only thing she had dreamt of all her life...

Priyanka Chopra as Kkamini performs well. She dances extremely well and thus suits the ‘item girl’ character she plays. Salman Khan looks as dashing and handsome as ever but what’s with him using that wannabe ‘desi-US’ accent even while speaking Hindi!

So, visit the website and read the complete review and then decide for yourself.

Nikhil Advani's first solo film :Salaam-e-Ishq

Salaam-e-Ishq is the first movie of director Nikhil Advani. Previously, he worked in Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films. Salaam-e-Ishq is a movie of six intertwined love stories. The characters are some how related to each other. In an interview with Komal Mehta, Nikhil talked about the movie. Being asked about the ending of the movie, Nikhil said that the movie has a very happy ending and no one dies. Nikhil was first approached by Sunil Manchanda about writing a movie with multiple love stories. At that time, Nikhil was not much interested but as soon as he started writing he understood that he should have a go with it.

Are the characters related?

Yes, they are related in a certain way.

Akshaye Khanna sits in a taxi driven by Govinda in Delhi. Akshaye is getting engaged to Ayesha Takia, the sister of Juhi Chawla. Juhi is married to Anil Kapoor, an event organiser. He calls up Priyanka Chopra, an item girl from London, to perform in Mumbai. Priyanka is connected to Salman Khan, who in turn is connected to Akshaye and Govinda.

Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar are the only couple not connected to anyone. I like to think of them like the chipmunk in Ice Age who is not connected to the main story -- but every time they come on screen, they make you laugh. I think every director likes to indulge, and these characters are my indulgences.

What are these six stories all about?

Salaam-e-Ishq has nothing to do with love and everything to do with what you should not do when in love. Salaam takes this whole notion of love being a sacred cow and flips it on its head completely. It is best summed up in one line -- 'One common problem: love.' A problem because when you're in love, you know it's a problem. It's a problem you can't live without and the only solution to it is also love. The only way to handle love is to love more.

The characters are simple. We have a taxi driver, an ambitious man, an item girl, a couple looking to elope, a man facing mid-life crisis and his wife, a commitment phobic man and his girlfriend, a girl looking for love and an American.

While writing the character of taxi driver Nikhil had Govinda in mind and Salman Khan was the first person he approached to. Secondly, he went to Akshay Khanna. Salman even suggested Nikhil to take Govinda. Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar are used as comic relives in the movie. However, the most favorite couple in this movie is John Abraham and Vidya Balan. Vidya plays the character of a practical Indian woman and John is a boy who has this journey from boyhood to manhood and Vidya looks after him. Salaam-e-Ishq has been released today and the title song of the movie has been very popular and the couples are well accepted by the public. Let’s see how they react to the movie.

Review of Salaam-e-Ishq from Times Now

Salaam-e-Ishq is the new movie and it is expected to do well in the box office. At the moment, Guru is dominating the box office. It will be interesting to see if Salaam-e-Ishq can put an end to the rule of Guru. On the other hand, it is the time for looking at the reviews. Times Now has a nice review of Salaam-e-Ishq written by Naomi Datta. In the review, Datta wrote:

First things first, if you haven’t got the point yet, Nikhil Advani needs to prune the film – by a good thirty minutes or so. He’s already dropped one song, Mera Dil Mera – which is a pity because it was a nice number, but well, never mind! He could have done without the Sohail- Isha track completely because it is unconnected to the rest of the film and not really needed except for the odd laugh or two, but now, well, never mind!

Never mind – because for the most part, Advani gets most things right in his second outing. The film works as a commercial mainstream entertainer – it is popular, yet at most times manages to be quite irreverent most deftly. Especially, Akshaye Khanna’s character which has an inimitable take on love and relationships – and has the audience laughing along in complete approval. Salaam- e- Ishq works because it doesn’t take itself too seriously – it is really not trying to be a deeply meaningful take on love – it is candy floss but with a great sense of humour. It is entertaining. It has some nice songs and stars – if only it were not so long, but then again, never mind!

Go ahead and read the full review from the website. It is a nice written review of Salaam-e-Ishq. After reading the review, I really wish to enjoy the movie.

"My Life is all about Love" Ayesha Takia

Dor may not be a huge success but Ayesha Takia’s performance was appraised by critics and film goers. It proved her acting skills. Recently, India FM had an exclusive interview with this beautiful, bright looking actress about her latest movie Salaam-e-Ishq. Salam-e-Ishq means “A Tribute to Love.” It is a typical commercial movie and a romantic one. The film tells the love story of different people who come from different social background: How they fell in love and the problems they faced. Ayesha played the character of a socialite girl Gia. She is in love with Shiven (Akshay Khanna) and Shiven is afraid to get married and get into long term commitment. Gia’s elder sister was played by Juhi Chawla. The movie has been directed by Nikhil Advani. I am quoting from India FM:

This is Nikhil Advani's second movie. How is he as a director?

Nikhil is also immensely talented and as I said earlier about the film, he knows how to blend perfectly a glossy commercial film, with a film that is so real! There are times in Salaam-e-Ishq when you will cry, there are times when you will laugh. So it maintains all the reality amidst all the glamour. That is Nikhil's plus point and that is why he will make the most amazing film whenever he does. I am just lucky to be part of a film like Salaam-e-Ishq, I think all of us as actors feel that way.

Do these stories run parallel or do you interact with other characters from the other stories?

They are six different stories but somewhere, at some point all the stories meet especially in the climax. So I didn't get a chance to act with too many people but Juhi Chawla plays my sister and Anil plays her husband, so then somewhere we meet, and Akshaye plays my boyfriend so he meets them. So in that sense, through relations, we do meet but it is so grandly made that it is not just about six stories. Salaam-e-Ishq is six movies put into one story; I think that is the important part! Every story is made with different colours, different sets, it is so huge that every story is made as one separate film. So I think it is the most rocking film that is going to release this year!

Working with Akshay Khanna was an exciting experience for Ayesha. She and Akshay is working for the second time. Salaam-e-Ishq has six tracks and Ayesha’s favorite one is Ya Rabba. Talking about her personal ideas about love and her love life, Ayesha believes that love is a very selfish feeling. Earlier, Ayesha had a relationship with Siddharth, Monisha’s brother. Now, there is a new man in her life, Farhan Azmi. Unlike other heroins, Ayesha admitted about her feelings for Farhan and felt confident that they would get married after some time. She is only twenty one and Farhan is twenty four. Ayesha also talked about some of her upcoming films- No Smoking with John Abraham, Kya Love Story Hai with Tusshaar Kapoor and De Taali with Ritesh Deshmukh. So far 2006 has been a great year for Ayesha lets see what happens to her in 2007.
