Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his manager had been fined by Indian authority

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his manager, Maroof Ali Khan, will have to pay a fine of Rs.1.5 million each under Foreign Exchange Management Act and Customs Act. After they pay their fines their documents will be returned but their money had been confiscated. The two have been detained at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on February 13, 2011 for carrying $142,000 in cash and cheques which they did not declare.

As per regulations, no one can carry more than $5000 in cash and $5000 in cheques and if someone carries more than he would have to declare the amount he carrying to the Customs Department.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan with his 16-member troupe came to India to perform at a show. Customs officials detained them at New Dehi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The team was boarding a flight to Lahore.

Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) questioned the singer. On February 18, 2011, they were questioned for eleven hours in New Delhi. On February 17, 2011 he was also questioned for another 10 hours.

After detaining Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, a DRI team also raided the premises of Chitresh Srivastava, the event manager in Mumbai. and recovered Rs.5 million.
