Madhur Bhandarkar is not afraid of controversies but knows his limits as well

Madhur Bhandarkar is famous for making realistic movies. He always tries to show the reality of life. This time, he took a very controversial subject for his movie; Jail. Jail tells the story of the suffering of Parag Dixit, a bright young man with a successful career wrongly accused of possessing drugs and sent to prison. The movie then shows how things work inside a prison and how the brutality changes a human being forever. The subject is very much controversial and Neil Nitin Mukesh’s nude scene caused another hoopla in the media. Regarding his movie, Madhur Bhandarkar said:

"I started Jail because of the subject that it was and I thought it was a terrific act to make that kind of cinema after Fashion. I always make contrasting cinema like after Corporate I made Traffic Signal and then Fashion. I again didn't want to go for drama. This time I thought why not make a drastic film or a radical film. Jail was a subject I had since long a time, and that idea struck to me again and I thought of making it this time."

Regarding his knack for taking risks, Madhur said he first checks out his limitations. He made Chandni Bar in Rs. 1.5 crore, Traffic Signal for Rs. 4 crores and Fashion in Rs. 18 crores. Before getting into any movie, he does extensive research and knows the budget of his movies very well. He always focuses on recovering the money. For this reason, Madhur became a very successful director.
