Sonam Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya

You know that Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of Bollywood’s popular actor Anil Kapoor, has recently completed her debut movie Saawarya. The movie, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, casts another newcomer, Ranbir Kapoor, son of another famous Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor. The 22 year old Bollywood beauty, Sonam got the offer for the movie in the set of Black, another movie of Bhansali. However, Sonam Kapoor was worried of her overweight. To be notated, she weighed 90 pounds then. So, it took little time for Sonam to decide over the matter.

It is also true that you can not even think of that Sonam Kapoor of Saawariya could have been overweight. The movie is based on a romantic story of a Hindu boy and Muslim girls. Sonam Kapoor plays the role of the Muslim girls in the movie.

Espress India reported:

Before Black was over, Sonam was signed on for Bhansali’s next grand venture, Saawariya, that will be released during Diwali. “I was 86 kg and grossly overweight. In fact, Ranbir (Kapoor) used to tease me, asking me to try my luck in south India. Sir’s offer took my breath away,” she laughs.
Now, slim and svelte, with raven-black tresses and dimpled smile, she fits the bill of the archetypal Bollywood heroine. But as the conversation progresses, the actor disappears and the fan emerges. “You know, shooting with Salman (Khan) was great. He’s like James Dean. I have always had such a huge crush on him, even though he was dad’s friend,” she gushes. And then, as she goes back to talking about Saawariya, her tone becomes almost reverent as she dwells on mentor and director Bhansali.

Saawariya is the first ever movie of Bollywood which is produced by a Hollywood production house. Sony Pictures has produced the movie. The movie is set for its worldwide release on 9 November 2007. This is expected to be the huge attraction of this year’s Diwali. No doubt, the movie fans are interested much about Saawarya. It is just yet to see if the movie can generate quick cashes and bring huge hit in the box office.
