Kiranjit Ahluwalia to Be Present in the Premiere of the Movie PROVOKED

Provoked, an English movie based on the real story of an unfortunate housewife, is going to be premiered in the famous theater in Leicester Square. The movie is based on a ture story of a Punjabi housewife Kiranjit Ahluwalia (played by Aishwarya Rai), who resided in England with her two children as well as his husband, Deepak Ahluwalia. Kiranjit was abused by her husband many times since they got married. Having tolerated continuous torture for years, Kiranjit set fire to her sleeping husband and murdered him. Being accused of a murder, British law sentenced her to lifetime imprisonment. In jail, she met Veronica Scott, her fellow cellmate. With the help of Veronica and a South Asian social worker group, The Southall Black Sisters, brought the case in to the lime light and gathered much media attraction in England. Thereafter, having gone through a lot of critical stages, Kiranjit at last became free and came into her normal life with her two children.

Now, on the occasion of the premiere show of the movie, it has been reported that Kiranjit herself will be present at the theater. DNA India reported:

Kiranjit Ahluwalia, a middle-aged woman from Punjab, will join the stars at the world-famous cinema in Leicester Square to see her life story immortalised on celluloid.

The diminutive Kiranjit for the last 11 years has been working the night shift at a Royal Mail sorting office near Slough. For the last 15 years, law students have been reading about her in their texts.

Kiranjit came to England in 1979 from a traditional family in Punjab, having married Deepak Ahluwalia. For ten years, she put up with her husband’s beatings and raping. One night, she threw petrol on him as he slept and lit a match. He died of burns six days later, but not before implicating Kiranjit for murder.

I think that the movie is going to make a huge media attraction in England as well as in India. The most important thing is that the movie is going to be on public ahead of the Aishwarya-Abhishek marriage ceremony. So, it seems that the movie will be rocking up in the next few months.

Hi, my name is janet plummer I have been a supported of Kiranjit since 1989, which cause my to write a poem about how I imagimed her life to be upon hearing in the News that she had killed her husband.
I was just 22 when I started this poem and now years later have performed it at local events in my community.
I would like to forward this poem to Kiranjit, hoping that she will read this and want to perform it also, it would mean the world to me to listen to her ....
The poem is called 'Trapped' and was finished 2003.
