Why King Khan immitates Amitabh Bachchan in KBC

For the last few days, every time you open Star Plus you would see Shah Rukh well suited sitting on the hot sit of Kaun Banega Krorepati saying “Main aap ka intezer kar raha hoon” (I am waiting for you). Well, the waiting is over and KBC SHOWTIME!!! KBC took off smoothly with a good television rating but then something happened. King Khan was not clicking as anticipated. The tv rating was sliding down. IBN Live reports:

If Shah Rukh Khan's romance on television or his un-masterly gestures of giving body massages to contestants left you puzzled as to what he was up to, King Khan has a clear answer to this. "I am trying to make it ( Kaun Banega Crorepati ) more light-hearted," he would tell you.

King Khan knows too well that, given his chatty image and his propensity (or should we call it penchant) for glib, he can ill-afford the pregnant pauses of Big B, which had brought in an aura of awe and academic gravity to the show.

So, SRK wants to capitalise on his own assets and bring in a transition there even though he has tried to ape Big B endlessly in every other aspect – from his efforts to build suspense after a question is answered, to the way he interacts with the contestants and their companions, to the way he carries out the ‘fastest finger fast’ part and so on and so forth.

I have watched the first episode of KBC and I admit that Shahrukh was consciously trying to copy Amitabh’s style which really did not click. However, in the next episode he presented himself very maturely. Although Shahrukh is saying that he is trying to make KBC more light and fun but he should think seriously about changing his style.
