Baabul: Exempted From Entertainment Tax in Uttar Pradesh Because of Big B

By: Biplob Kishore Deb

The recent movie of Amitabh Bachchan named ‘Baabul’ based on a theme of widow marriage has been allowed to be shown in Uttar Pradesh without paying any entertainment tax for three months. Here, it is noteworthy that Big B nicknamed Amitabh Bachchan, a legend of Bollywood, was born in Uttar Pradesh province and he was also an elected member of Indian parliament from his native place Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Regarding this exemption news of this movie I have gone through Sahara Samay article and I ma quoting some lines from the article:

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here.

The proposal for exempting the film from the trade tax was placed before the Cabinet on the recommendation of UP Development Council chairman Amar Singh, officials said.

The film is produced by B.R. Chopra, directed by Ravi Chopra and features Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, John Abraham and Om Puri besides Bachchan.

It is good for the producers that they can generate more profit from Uttar Pradesh. I think they should give thanks to the authority and also Big B. The producer may take Big B in his next movie too!
