All about Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek Bachchan, one of the top five Bollywood actors of this year, is gradually showing his acting talent with time being. This talented and skilled actor of new generation is now in a good position in Bollywood. He already showed some of his passionate acting in the recent years which can well-reject the critics regarding his acting power. He is now acting in some high profile movies of industries popular directors. However, it is true that he has already done some good job in Bollywood which have turned him out of the shadow of his celebrity parents Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan.

Abhishek was born on 5 February, 1976 in Mumbai, India. His father Amitabh Bachchan is one of the legendary figures in the history of Bollywood and is still acting and producing hit movies. His mother Jaya Bachchan was also a leading actress in Bollywood in her time and now she is an MP of Rajya Sabha. Abhishek’s grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a popular poet of Hindi and Urdu language. The present family title ‘Bachchan’ was first used by his grandfather as his pen name replacing their original family title ‘Srivastava’. Born in such a family it was very important for Abhishek to meet the demand of public following his parent. Earlier in his career, it was his great challenge for the new comer to get out of his parents image.

Abhishek was brought up in India and studied in India, Switzerland and in United States. He started his education in Jamnabai Narsee School and then he also studied in Bombay Scottish School, Modern School (New Delhi) and Aiglon College in Switzerland. Then he joined in Boston University, USA in order to study in Business. However, he came back to India and has chosen acting as his career without completing his study in business in USA.

With a huge expectance of people, he first acted in the movie ‘Refugee’ directed by J.P. Dutta in 2000 with Kareena Kapoor. Though the movie could not meet the demand of people and could not turn any hit in the box office and Abhishek’s performance could not meet the high expectance of the people, I think, as a newcomer his performance was well enough to be praised. He played a roll of a son of a chief of a village situated at the border of Indo-Pakistan. He is used to help people crossing the border who want to migrate to Pakistan. The time was just after the 1971 India-Pakistan war and many people from the newly liberated Bangladesh want to migrate to Pakistan. Abhishek once helped such a family to cross the border and fall in love with the affectionate girl of that family. Kareena Kapoor played the role of that girl and as a debutant actress of Bollywood she got the Film Fare Best Debut award for this role. Though Abhishek showed some of his acting skill and also nominated for Best Debut Male award in almost all the major award giving ceremonies including Film Fare, IIFA, Star Screen Awards, Zee Cine Awards, he could not win any of these award.

After that he could not produce any hit movie for four years. In these four years, many critics saw the end of his career and comparing with his parents he was often criticized. It was also said that it was only his father Amitabh for whom Abhoshek was surviving in the industry. Later in 2004, he first got the recognition of his acting skill playing the role of Lallan in the movie ‘Yuva’ for which he got Filmfare, IIFA, Star Screen, Zee Cine award for Best Supporting role. Abhishek was also honored with the Star of the Year Award of Stardust for his acting in the movie. However, the movie could not get much hit and got an average hit at the box office. So, the rumor was still going on regarding the ability of Abhishek in the industry but he did not take much time to produce his first hit movie ‘Dhoom’ in the same year ‘Yuva’ released. For this movie ‘Dhoom’ he, though, was not praised much but the movie got many awards and got a huge hit at the box office.

The year 2005 is seen as the most successful year in his career. This year he played some of the hit movies and showed his best performance which have boost up his career and that is why he could come to today’s position in the industry. One needs skill to present four consecutive hit movies in a year which he did in 2005. Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus and Bluffmaster was successful in the box office in which Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar was special not only for his career but also for the industry as well. For these four movies he got a prestigious award of CNN-IBN Entertainer of the Year-2005.

It is true that he has started his career under the shadow of his celebrity parents and the expectation of people was high on him which was not easy to handle earlier. In addition, critics were also active questioning his acting skill and it was a common rumor that it is only his parents and specially his father fro whom he is getting chance in the movies of high profile directors. However, movie is one kind of art and here it is not possible to survive for a long time just depending on somebody else if one has no potential. He has been in Bollywood for the last 6 years and has seen many successes in his career. It is also unfair to compare two persons of two times. When Amitabh was in domoinant position in Bollywood the time and situation was very different that that of present time. So, it is totally something baseless to compare Abhishek with his father Amitabh.

This year he has produced three Blockbusters hit movies named ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ and very recently ‘Dhoom 2’. At the beginning of 2007 his another high profile movie Guru with Aishwarya Rai, a leading actress in Bollywood. He will be starred in Sarkar 2, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Dorna, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Chudiyan, Delhi 6 and Dhoom 3. This year he has been elected as the Sexiest Asian Man of the year 2006 by Britain's most popular Asian newspaper, Eastern Eye.

There is a rumor in Bollywood that Abhishek is going to marry Aishwarya Rai. Though there is not any strong base of such news but both of them are seen to have a good relation. If you talk about Bollywood or any film industry or any star, you should know that anything can happen anytime.

I think though Abhishek could start to be known by his own talent rather his parents, he has to go a long way to make a distinct place for is in Bollywood. For sure, he has that ability to flourish his potential in order to see himself in a dominant position in Bollywood.
