2006: The Year of the Triumph of Bollywood Movies in USA

Bollywood movies have already made $2 million in the box office in US in 2006 which is a record and higher than any other language- this is a record. For bollywood, this year is a special one and from the beginning of the year the industry has gone through some of the blockbuster movies including Rang De Basanti and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehana (KANK). Moreover, Fanaa and Krrish have also seen a huge success in the box office. These movies are still earning revenue in the market. I am quoting some form a forbes report regarding the high performance of the bollywood movies:

Industry analysts estimate that the Hindi film industry has already grossed more than £40 million (or $78 million) over the last six months of 2006, the highest in recent years, boosted by blockbusters including Rang De Basanti and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehana (KANK). Late blockbuster releases from 2005-- Fanaa and Krrish--still continued to earn money in 2006.

The industry is making more star-driven commercial films with bigger budgets, and "audiences are responding," says Gitesh Pandya, editor of the Web site BoxOfficeGuru.com, which tracks trends in the movie industry.

Heck, even big American actors are responding. George Clooney, star of Good Night And Good Luck, Syriana, and Ocean's Eleven, was quoted earlier this month on a popular news Web site about Bollywood as saying he would be willing to jump into the action there.

Bollywoodworld.com reported that Clooney praised advances in the industry's filmmaking and said he'd love to appear in a high-profile musical production set in India. "There is a small market in the States as of now, but it will be fun if it catches on, because it is such a positive way of looking at filmmaking, and I really love that. I truly think it's fun," Clooney is quoted as saying.

It is also true that some scandals and negative ideas were heard in bollywood. Lage Raho Munnabhai star Sanjay Dutt has been accused off and having illegal weapons that has link with the series bomb blast in 1993. Another negative side seen or heard in bollywood this year involved two leading stars of bollywood- Aishwarya Rai and Hrithik Roshan – both of them accused off having a kiss scene which is claimed not to go with the Indian culture.

However, I would say that this year will be remembered as a successful year for bollywood. Many successful and hit movies have released this year. So, negative ideas can easily be outraged easily by the positive ideas.
